Paper Installation
This project began as a concept for a lenticular artwork exploring the contradictory expectations and ideals often associated with femininity. Although the final “Unapologetic” piece became a two-dimensional board installation.
The work drew inspiration from Hinduism, specifically the contrasting forms of the goddess Kaali and Parvati. The piece explored how opposing virtues can coexist within the same person, and how women should feel unapologetic in embodying both strength and softness.
For the “Unshackled” exhibition, I had the opportunity to further develop the concept as a three-dimensional installation. The goddess figure was depicted with blue skin, reflecting how gods and goddesses are commonly portrayed in popular culture and traditional imagery. I then added another visual layer featuring real women on the reverse side, represented with brown skin tones. This contrast symbolised the idea that women are reflections of the divine, connecting mythology with lived human experience.
